Short answer
You have three routes. Red Wing's own repair shop in Red Wing, Minnesota charges $165 for a resole or $180 for its Premium Repair Package (prices effective January 1, 2026), and you can drop boots at a Red Wing store or ask for a free shipping label on services over $50. Red Wing stores and their local repair partners may price differently. Or use an independent cobbler: Daub's in New Hampshire says it is an authorized Red Wing repair center and takes boots by mail. Only welted Red Wing, WORX and Irish Setter boots can be resoled, and cracked insoles or torn uppers usually rule a pair out.
Shop policies, prices and turnaround times change. Every claim here links to its source, so check the linked page before you ship.
Red Wing boots are built to be resoled, but where you send them changes the price, the sole options and how long you wait. This guide covers the three routes: Red Wing's factory repair shop, Red Wing stores and their local partners, and independent cobblers. Prices and policies are quoted from each business's own page on the date we checked (October 22, 2026). Check the linked page before you ship.
Option 1: Red Wing's own repair shop
Red Wing runs a repair shop inside its factory in Red Wing, Minnesota source. It only repairs boots made by Red Wing Shoe Company: Red Wing, WORX and Irish Setter source.
Published prices (from Red Wing's repair page and repair form, which says prices are "effective as of January 1, 2026" and subject to change):
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Premium Repair Package: resole and heel, repair broken hooks and eyelets, minor stitching, new laces, leather reconditioning, plus a full-size leather conditioner | $180.00 |
| Resole (including oiling and new laces, when applicable) | $165.00 |
| Replace heels only | $60.00 |
| Add or change hooks / eyelets | $65.00 |
| Repair stitching | $75.00 |
| Dye boots black (includes sole) | $80.00 |
| Repair heel lining / replace collar | $80.00 |
| Replace gussets | $100.00 |
| Install zippers (certain styles only) | $70.00 |
| Apply Tuff Toe (black or brown only) | $50.00 |
How to send them in repair form:
- Print and fill in the PDF repair form: the service you want and your return address.
- Take out laces, footbeds or orthotics and any other personal items. The form says they "will not be returned".
- Pay by check in the box unless you pay at a Red Wing store. The form says Red Wing can't process credit cards for mailed repairs at this time.
- Drop the boots and form at a Red Wing store, or call 1-800-733-9464 or email customer service for a free shipping label (offered for services over $50).
Turnaround: Red Wing's repair page doesn't publish one. One owner on r/RedWingShoes said Red Wing quoted 4–6 weeks in December 2021 r/RedWingShoes. That's a single, old user report, so ask when you request your label.
If they can't fix them: Red Wing says it will contact you with options, which "may include a replacement pair or a refund", and send back your check source.
Option 2: Red Wing stores and local repair partners
Red Wing's repair page mentions "trusted local repair partners nationwide" alongside the factory shop, and says "repair pricing may vary by location. Visit your local Red Wing Store for details" source. In practice, a store can take your boots and the form for the factory shop, and some stores work with a local cobbler. Owners on Reddit report both. One Colorado owner said their store uses a local cobbler r/RedWingShoes. Ask your store which route it uses, what it costs and how long it takes.
Red Wing doesn't publish a list of its local repair partners on the repair page, so we don't list any here as "official".
Option 3: Independent cobblers that list Red Wing work
These come from our directory. Each one is checked against the shop's own website, and they're listed here only if that site names Red Wing:
- Daub's Cobbler Shop (Laconia, NH). Its site says it is "an authorized repair center for Asolo, Birkenstock, Zamberlan, Lowa, Meindl and Redwing Shoes", uses "manufacturer-approved replacement parts", and that "you can ship your repair to us or drop it off" source. It also says warranty repairs "must go through the manufacturer".
- High St. Shoe Repair (Salem, OR). It has a Red Wing page that lists resoles at "$95 and up" for styles including the Classic Moc, Iron Ranger and Chelsea. It usually promises about one week for Classic Moc resoles with Vibram 4014 soles. Red Wing work is local only: the page says "we cannot offer our Red Wing service through the mail", even though the shop takes other repairs by mail source.
- Cobblers Direct (Dallas, TX; mail-in). Its work and hiking boot page lists "Redwings" among the brands it repairs and describes full sole replacement for work boots. No Red Wing-specific price is published, so you get a quote after a consultation source.
Other mail-in cobblers that resole welted boots but don't name Red Wing on their sites: Wyatt & Dad, Potter and Sons, Aram The Cobbler, Fred's Shoe Repair, McFarland Shoe Repair and B. Nelson Shoes. Owners regularly recommend independents for Red Wing resoles on Reddit, and Wyatt & Dad was the top reply in one thread r/RedWingShoes. Send photos first and confirm they'll take your model. For a local shop, browse shoe repair by state.
Factory or independent: what changes
| Red Wing repair shop | Independent cobbler | |
|---|---|---|
| Which boots | Red Wing, WORX and Irish Setter only | Usually any welted boot. Ask about your model. |
| Published price | $165 resole, $180 package (effective Jan 1, 2026) | Varies. High St. lists "$95 and up" (local only). Many quote after seeing photos. |
| Shipping | Free label for services over $50, or drop off at a Red Wing store | Depends on the shop. See each listing. |
| Sole choice | Red Wing doesn't list sole options on its repair page | Often a range, e.g. Vibram 4014 or Vibram 100 lug at High St. |
| Proprietary soles | High St. says only Red Wing can supply the original Supersole | A replacement Vibram sole is used instead |
| Prior repairs | Repairs by another shop "may prevent us from repairing your boots" | Ask the shop |
A note on Reddit prices: older posts quote factory resoles at around $125 (for example, a September 2025 reply in r/RedWingShoes). Red Wing's current form lists $165, effective January 1, 2026. Use the form, not old threads.
Can your Red Wings be resoled?
- Construction matters. Red Wing says boots made with welt construction can be repaired, "pending any excessive wear and tear", and that "not all Red Wing, WORX, or Irish Setter boots can be resoled" source. If you aren't sure, see how to tell if a cobbler can resole welted boots.
- Condition matters. Boots with cracked insoles, torn leather uppers or worn-through linings "usually cannot be repaired". Red Wing also says that if it accepts boots with cut or cracked insoles, the cuts and cracks will still be there afterwards repair form.
- Don't wait too long. Red Wing's repair shop cobbler says oiled, maintained boots are "more likely" to be resolable source.
- Toe wear can't be rebuilt at the factory. Red Wing can add a Tuff Toe but can't replace a worn toe area or fit leather toe caps source.
- Suede and nubuck boots are cleaned rather than reconditioned repair form.
